Our Walking, running
& cycling routes

Exploring by foot and by bike
Here in Domaine de Cournet-Haut we are passionate about the great outdoors, and we are absolutely spoilt for choice of trails and quiet country lanes to explore this beautiful area. Alan is a very keen trial runner and has a great knowledge of the local paths and circuits. Here on this page, we share with you a selection of some of our favourite walking, running and cycling routes. Most of which start and finish in Domaine de Cournet-Haut so its perfect for jumping straight into the pool to cool off in the summer, or cosy up next to the wood burning stove in the winter. Enjoy!

3. Boucle des bories
Follow the ancient Roman walls leading up the steep trail behind St.Pompon, not forgetting to pause and enjoy the view looking through the old oak trees onto St.Pompon. Along this route you will pass some examples of the traditional stone "bories" or shepard huts - there is one particularly nice example at around the 5.2km mark just down a small track to your right. Between about 6.2km - 7.8km you will be following the mountain biking trails which are not defined on the map.

4.Petit tour en velo avec les enfants
(A short cycle with the kids)
This is a nice, flat(ish) little cycle to do with the kids. Explore all of the little back streets of St.Pompon (don't be afraid to go off the GPS route) and come home along the river. between about 3.2km - 3.6km you will be on a walking trail so you may need to get off and walk with the bike.

9. Boucle du Moncalou
This walk starts from the carpark in Moncalou which is a 18 minute drive from Domaine de Cournet-Haut (click on the link below for directions). This route starts and finishes by the vineyards of Vin de Domme. This area is particularly peaceful with some of my favourite trails along the way. Be sure to climb to the top of the pamoramic viewing tower located 100m from your start/finish point. If you have enough energy there is a nice little path (2km) looping through the vineyards and forest which is open to the public. And why not treat yourself to a cold drink, or a hot meal in the restaurant La Terrasse du Moncalou located accross from the tower. Be sure to check opening hours by clicking here first

10. Point du vue de Castelnaud
This route starts and finishes in the (paying)carpark of Castelnaud which is a 20 minute drive from Cournet-Haut. If you plan on visiting the wonderful Castelnaud try doing this short hike around the top of the hill. It is a marked walkway and it will bring you past a viewing point in the forest giving incredible vistas of the valley.
